Thanksgiving with Chris Langkow

Thanksgiving in Canada isn’t necessarily celebrated with the same exultation as it is in the United States, though don’t tell that to Silvertip veteran Chris Langkow.
“Thanksgiving is celebrated in Canada, though probably not as strong as it’s celebrated here. It’s fun, the family always gets together, and there’s a great, big supper.”
“It’s a pretty big family. It’s usually my dad’s side or my mom’s side of the family. We usually have to split it up and do one day with each side, so yeah, it can get pretty big.”
Even though it’s a long table when the Langkows get together, there’s one person absent: cousin Daymond, a forward with the Calgary Flames.
“He’s always busy with hockey, and for him to come down at all during the season is pretty hard.”
This is a familiar dilemma for the Langkow family, who at this point has become accustomed to having family members absent for large stretches of the calendar.
“I actually haven’t been able to celebrate Thanksgiving with my family for the last four years because I’ve been in Spokane, Saskatoon or here. I actually remember Thanksgiving in Spokane was a pretty big event. But the billets have always made me feel at home, and I’ve celebrated with them. This year we’ll be having a lot of people over, and my billets are great cooks, so I’m excited.”
Also interesting this year is that Chris happens to billet with Radko Gudas, who will be experiencing his first Thanksgiving in the United States. A note to the relatives who will be attending the meal: make sure you keep your head up while passing the cranberry sauce, or else you could be in for a world of hurt.
To see how the Silvertips fare after a high-protein Thanksgiving dinner of turkey and stuffing, make sure you support Chris, Radko, and the rest of the Silvertips on Friday, November 27th against the Regina Pats!
